After the body is ready for final paint, the seams are sealed.

Besides the floors, other interior sufraces should be treated for preservation and aesthetics.  Usually these two objectives are closely related.

Rust is removed to bare metal...

 

...and the entire trunk area is painted similar to the floors.

 

The last step before painting is remasking the body to...

1.) Protect engine bay, interior, and air inlets from overspray, and...

 

2.) Keep dust in these areas from spoiling the paint job.

The base coast is applied...

...Note the body is masked to the door openings- precluding the need to first paint the door jambs.

 

This results in a higher quality job without a masking line.

Finally the clear coat is applied.
